Sports and fitness apps
have become an integral part of daily lives of millions of mobile users, allowing them to do everything related to both sports and fitness. Sports apps give users quick information related to their favorite sports leagues. Users can also watch live games for certain popular sports without a subscription, and they can receive updates on many other sports. These applications have made it possible to keep up with latest scores and news from of user’s favorite teams, as well as to stay informed about a favorite team or a player.

While, the purpose of a fitness app is to provide the user with examples and instructions of one or more types of exercise, nutritional programs, physical activity, or some other fitness topic. The users can use sports and fitness apps to count calories, workout statistics, or to collect data about running, walking, and bike riding. Some sports and fitness apps also connect the user to a personal trainer or nutritionist to help them with areas of concern while using a specific fitness routine or with workout in general.

Sports and fitness apps are becoming increasingly popular among individuals seeking a healthy lifestyle, as these apps allow users to track caloric intake, set fitness goals, and gather workout ideas to facilitate healthy behavior change. Thus, such mobile applications are often used by a sports academy, fitness academy/center, or trainer to enhance performance of an individual or to enhance performance of their team or teams by analyzing the strong areas of an individual or the team and by monitoring their performance.

The emergence of COVID-19 has increased the popularity of the sports and fitness apps, which in turn, is expected to increase the use of sports and fitness apps. Closure of sports academy and fitness centers due to the pandemic has forced people to stay at home, as a result, people have started adopting mobile applications to maintain healthy lifestyle. For example, according to JRank.org, over 74% of people in the U.S. used at least one fitness app during quarantine, and around 60% enjoyed their home workouts during the pandemic.
