Many Blister Packaging machines produce the cavity or pocket from a roll or sheet of plastic by applying heat and pressure through a die.

This technique has grown in recent years thanks to advancements in cold forming, particularly the ability to form steeper depths and angles, which reduces the amount of material required for each cavity. The more compact size compared to cold-formed aluminium and the clarity to view the goods are the key benefits of the plastic-based blister pack.

Blister/cavities are generated in Blister Packaging using either a thermoforming method or a cold-forming procedure. There are no thermoformed or cold-formed voids in strip packing. Pharmaceutical blister packing may be divided into two categories. Strip packaging doesn't have this kind. The most common material used to make Blister Packaging is PVC, mostly because of its low cost. PVC sheets measuring 0.25mm or 0.3mm are used to create these blister packs.

For improved sealing of products from oxygen and moisture, PVDC is frequently coupled with PVC sheets to form blister packs with an extra layer of protection. Aluminium-containing laminate film in the shape of thin sheets is used in the cold-forming blister-packing process. Cold forming employs a stamp to push the sheets into a form, which enables the aluminium-based film to stretch and hold the mould shape after the stamp is withdrawn to produce blister packs.

Aluminium is the ideal material for Blister Packaging pharmaceutical items since it prevents the substance from being changed and blocks out all light and heat. To extend the shelf life of pills, capsules, and effervescent tablets, it is utilised in the majority of blister packing and alu-alu blister machines.
